Course Title: Philharmonic Orchestra Course No.: 0307 Length of Course: 1 year Grade Level: 9-12 Prerequisite: Participation in middle school orchestra or private lessons Fulfills UC/CSU Requirements: Yes Semester Periods of Credit: 5 Meets District Graduation Requirement: Arts This course involves a basic education in reading music, playing technique and understanding the different musical styles for violin, viola, cello and string bass instrumentalists. Emphasis will be on music performance. Students will play (rehearse) daily covering a variety of music styles and instrumental techniques. Performances outside of regular school time are required. Course Title: Symphony Orchestra Course No.: 0337 Length of Course: 1 year Grade Level: 9-12 Prerequisite: Philharmonic Orchestra Fulfills UC/CSU Requirements: Yes Semester Periods of Credit: 5 Meets District Graduation Requirement: Arts This course involves a continued education in reading music, string instrument playing technique and understanding different musical styles. Emphasis will be on performance. Students will play and rehearse daily covering a variety of music genres, musical elements and performance techniques. Students will also write critiques of other string ensemble and orchestral performances, as well as completing quizzes on basic musicianship elements. Performance and dress rehearsals outside of regular school time are required. |
